Community, Climate and Culture
The New Zealand Infrastructure Sustainability Summit returns to Auckland for its second year in 2019, following on from the success of last year’s inaugural summit.
The Summit has been extended from one to two days, at the request of the New Zealand infrastructure community.
Day 1 is all about Infrastructure Sustainability Ratings; including learnings from practitioners on projects that have implemented the IS Rating Scheme, and Day 2 highlights the current industry trends and driving forces.
Day 2 will focus on the theme of Climate, Culture and Community.
- Climate change resilience is paramount to infrastructure sustainability in New Zealand, and we’ve assembled experts to discuss what is happening and what needs to happen to ensure infrastructure built resilient.
- Culture refers to the complexity of change; shifts in organisational cultures needed to fully embrace and implement sustainability, how organisations are partnering with mana whenua, creating wider value through sustainable procurement, and workforce sustainability.
- Community refers to YOU and all those you interact with… the community of dedicated professionals driving sustainability in infrastructure in New Zealand, as well as those that benefit from infrastructure, which is a fundamental building block for a vibrant society. The Summit is an opportunity to get together, network, share ideas, listen and learn.
Day 1 – The IS Rating Scheme in Practice
15th May - GridAKL 101 Pakenham Street
The New Zealand Infrastructure Community requested more of a focus on the IS Rating Scheme this year, and we listened. Day 1 of the Summit is all about learning from projects who have implemented the IS Rating Scheme across the life cycle; Planning, Design, As Built and Operations. Hear from ANZ project teams about the big lessons they learnt, their challenges, successes, and of course, tips and tricks in applying the IS Rating Scheme.
The day kicks off with a site tour of Auckland’s multi sustainability award-winning City Rail Link project. Learn how sustainability has been implemented throughout New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project, from the team behind its successes. Please note, the site tour has a limited number of spaces – register early to avoid missing out.
Lunch is in the hands of WISE catering, a social enterprise supporting women from a refugee background to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, confidence and resources to start-up or contribute to activities for generating income for their families. WISE is run under a unique partnership between the Auckland Resettled Community Coalition and the ARMS Trust.
Day 2 – The IS Summit Main Day

There will be keynote presentations in the morning from influential Kiwi leaders, multi-disciplinary panel discussions, and an innovation and impacts workshop to showcase the coolest newest technologies in infrastructure sustainability.
